Hatemotion is a Turkish metal band embracing a modern metal approach and producing music in the melodic/groove metal genre. Combining powerful riffs with melodic passages, the band merges groovy rhythms with a multi-vocal structure to create an original sound fed by different subgenres of metal. The band’s name is formed by combining the words “Hate”, “Emotion”, and “Motion”. Hatemotion aims to make listeners deeply feel the meanings carried and emotions created by these three concepts in their music.
The foundations of the band were laid in early 2020 with the aim of coming together as a cover band. However, the pandemic process that began in March of the same year led to a different direction in the band’s musical journey. During this period, Hatemotion decided to focus on their own compositions alongside cover works and, over time, turned toward efforts that would forge their own musical identity.
Hatemotion’s lineup features Alp Demirtaş on vocals, Umur Bayer on guitar and vocals, Altuğ Coşkun on guitar, Enes Mehmet Karamanoğlu on bass guitar and vocals, and Ozan Oğuz on drums.
The band’s debut album work, “Hatemotional Diaries”, is conceived not merely as an album, but as a diary whose pages open one by one. By releasing the songs on the album sequentially as singles, Hatemotion aims to convey each track’s unique theme and story to the listener more powerfully.
Following the first page of this diary, “GUILTY ONE”, “THE POISON IN ME” addresses a real human story from the perspectives of “Mind” and “Heart”. The third page, “EPIDEMICAL DESTRUCTION”, tells of the events experienced during the pandemic and where the world arrived afterward through the opposition of “Human” and “Virus”.
While the fourth page, “TREPIDATION’S RISE”, focuses on the states of panic and anxiety arising in a person’s mind following their experiences, the fifth page, “DECEIT ON THE FRONTLINE”, brings the band’s epic side to the fore. The track addresses the enlightenment and tragedy experienced on the front line by soldiers who begin questioning what cause they are fighting for under the influence of political and social manipulations.
The sixth page of the diary, “MY BLINDED NIGHTMARE”, conveys a person’s search for salvation while struggling amid the fear, tension, and depression created by substance addiction. Hatemotion dedicates this track to the “Prince of Darkness”, Ozzy Osbourne, who recently passed away and inspired millions of people throughout his life with his struggle and music.
The seventh page of the diary, “THE WOLF’S MARCH”, stands out as a work where the band turns toward a historical narrative. The track approaches the Turkish War of Independence from the perspective of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Turkish Nation, conveying the process stretching from the landing at Samsun to the moment the command for the Great Offensive was given in a chronological narrative.
As Hatemotional Diaries focuses on a different human condition, social issue, or historical event with each new page, it aims to transform into a single grand story upon the completion of all tracks. Hatemotion’s music, on the other hand, takes shape at the common denominator of these stories: the intersection point of rage, emotion, and motion.
