Today’s Music Discovery: İlkay Şencan Dissolves Boundaries on New EP, Origin

Carving a singular path across the global electronic landscape with over two million monthly listeners, producer and DJ İlkay Şencan returns to ignite the dance floor with his eagerly anticipated EP, Origin. Harnessing the worldwide momentum of his chart-topping singles “Şaşkın” and “Rakkas (Shake It)”, Şencan raises the stakes once again, drawing listeners into a high-octane excursion where Anatolia’s melodic heritage seamlessly converges with Latin and Spanish rhythms.

A Dance-Floor Rendezvous with Roots

Bridging Afro-house sensibilities and raw club propulsion with the organic textures of world music, Origin pushes Şencan’s production vocabulary into decidedly more dynamic territory. Across seven boundary-defying tracks, evocative Anatolian motifs intertwine with sinuous Spanish strings and vibrant Latin percussion to deliver an expansive sonic feast.

Unreserved in his enthusiasm when unpacking the genesis of the release, Şencan notes:

“The starting point was to take tracks I deeply cherish, filter them through my signature sound, and translate that into something with genuine global resonance.”

Realising this vision, the curation features an eclectic roster of prominent figures across the electronic and pop spectra: Mahmut Orhan, Buray, ARVIII, BeatItPunk, and Levent Lodos all make notable appearances. Retaining full creative autonomy in the studio, Şencan personally helms the songwriting, composition, and production across the entire record. While taking sole credit for the mixing and mastering of “Şaşkın”, he shares the desk with Celil Yavuz on the remaining tracks.

Putting the mystical sensibilities of the East in direct dialogue with Western club rhythms, Origin is out now across all streaming platforms as of 23 October.
