Preparing to open its doors for the third time, Furnishings & Design Istanbul (FDI) sets the heart of the furniture and interior design industry beating with innovative ideas. Moreover, on stage this year is one of the most inspiring and boundary-pushing names in contemporary industrial design: the legendary British designer Ross Lovegrove, who defines himself as a “sculptor of technology”!
Organized by the Federation of Furniture Associations (MOSFED) and shaped around the motto “Where Design Leads”, FDI Istanbul will take place at the Istanbul Expo Center between September 24 and 26, 2026. Going far beyond being a classic fair where only aesthetic products are displayed, this organization positions design as the key to innovation, sustainability, and global branding.
Genius of Biomorphic Design: Ross Lovegrove
When it comes to biomimetic (biomorphic) design inspired by nature’s flawless forms, Ross Lovegrove is one of the first names that comes to mind—a visionary with nearly 2,000 projects under his belt. Having worked with global giants like Sony, Apple, Airbus, TAG Heuer, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès throughout his career, Lovegrove holds a prime spot in modern art and industrial design museums with designs such as the Go Chair, DNA Stairs, and the iconic Ty Nant water bottle.
His works are exhibited in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions like New York MoMA, Centre Pompidou, and the Design Museum in London, reinterpreting design at the intersection of science and nature.
Taking the stage right after the opening on Thursday, September 24 at 13:00 as part of FDI Stage & Talks, Lovegrove will discuss the new relationship design establishes with technology, biology, artificial intelligence, and nature. He expresses his excitement about coming to Istanbul with the following words:
“I am truly very excited. I will share the experiences I’ve gained throughout my life with participants through an organic and productive design approach. I see myself as a technology sculptor… Today we are right in the middle of a transformation extending from analog to digital, and from there to the age of artificial intelligence. I cannot wait to talk about this transformation in Istanbul on September 24.”
