PG Art Gallery: Ayşe Gül Süter – Light Constellation

Imagine looking up into a pitch-black night. Stars suspended millions of light-years apart in the void of space coalesce into a sprawling picture only through the eyes observing them from Earth. We draw the lines ourselves, constructing grand meaning from points bound by no physical tie. In her exhibition Light Constellation at PG Art Gallery, Ayşe Gül Süter operates much like a celestial cartographer, inviting us to trace those same invisible lines within our own lives.

From the moment one steps into the gallery space, an interplay of light across stainless steel rods and points envelops the viewer. While at first glance these installations evoke star clusters drifted in from a distant galaxy, they are in fact an embodiment of that strange, familiar, yet entirely invisible web operating quietly in the background of our lives. Moving among Süter’s sculptures, one contemplates not merely objects, but the nature of perception itself—whispering that true connection lies not within cold metal, but in how the mind brings these disparate elements together.

In truth, the artist addresses more than a conceptual proposition here; she unpacks a profoundly human, poignant resonance. Think of the phone ringing the very instant an old friend crosses your mind, an uncalculated affinity formed with a stranger, or the indescribable intimacy between a mother and her unborn child… The serendipitous encounters that shift the arc of life by fractions of a millimeter, or a lingering thought that unexpectedly takes on physical form over time. Süter translates these quiet ties—which science often struggles to quantify and which we ‘know’ solely through lived experience—into a tangible aesthetic within the space.

Those following the artist’s practice will be familiar with light’s interplay with space and the spectator’s body from her Path of Light series. This time, however, Süter shifts her lens from the purely physical reflections of light toward the quiet architecture of human relationships. The spatial distances between objects, the dialogues born of intersecting colors, and light continually recalibrating this entire equation second by second… An elastic tether stretches across the gallery void, linking memories we assumed long past to our present choices and the selves we are yet to become. Nothing in life remains fixed; much like these installations, our personal cartography is quietly redrawn with every step, every new encounter.

On view from 11 September to 16 October 2026, Light Constellation functions as a visual poem composed around unseen bonds. Stepping out of the gallery and back into the street’s throng, one is likely to view passersby, past decisions, and the chain of coincidences shaping one’s life through a markedly altered lens. After all, the strongest lines sustaining us and binding us to one another are precisely those we can never truly see.
