Building a Home Together: “Home for Everyone” Climate and Migration Workshop at Horniman Museum

The climate crisis doesn’t just alter nature and weather temperatures; it also reshapes the living spaces, routes, and stories of millions of people. As extreme heat, droughts, wildfires, and floods make regional living harder, people hit the road in search of a safer haven for themselves and their families.

South East London’s beloved Horniman Museum & Gardens, known for its work centering both planet and people, brings this important topic to light through a remarkably warm and creative gathering. Featuring the participation of the Migration Museum team, the free workshop titled “Home for Everyone: How we care for people and planet” will bring visitors together on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 11:00 to 15:00.

Creative Workshops and Migration Stories

On this special day—where the event has been moved from the museum garden to the Education Centre right next to the entrance due to extreme heat—inspiring content has been crafted for visitors of all ages and families:

• Thoughtful and Creative Craft Workshop: Kids and families will explore how we can better care for the environment, build solidarity with our neighbors, and strengthen community resilience through hands-on craft activities.

• Migration Story Discs: Visitors will have the chance to share their own stories of migration and settling through special discs.

• Chats with the Migration Museum Team: An opportunity will be provided to chat one-on-one with the team about the Migration Museum’s upcoming permanent new venue and their ongoing community projects.

Practical Information for Families

Open to all children and families, this event is completely free and requires no tickets or advance registration. Children must remain with a parent or carer throughout the workshop.
