London’s most beloved, vibrant, and inclusive free open-air music festival, King’s Cross Summer Sounds, returns for its 11th year with the most exciting and richest lineup in its history.
Transforming King’s Cross into a massive center of music and dance for 11 full days between August 13 – 23, 2026, the festival offers a tremendous spectrum ranging from jazz to soul, opera to indie rock, electronic music to dynamic dance performances. Echoing from the Coal Drops Yard stage every weekday evening between 18:30 – 20:30, and on “Family Sundays” between 13:00 – 18:00, these melodies are completely free of charge!

From Bowie Nights to Indie Rhythms: A Parade of Stars in the Festival’s First Evenings
The grand opening of the festival takes place on the evening of Thursday, August 13 with Bowie Nights, dedicated to the timeless legacy of David Bowie. In this special night organized in collaboration with Lightroom, all performing artists will interpret at least one or two Bowie classics in their own styles alongside their original tracks. Headlining the night are The Molotovs, one of the rising bands of the indie music scene; while Jack Kaye, whom we know from The Magic Gang, with his solo project, and Ashaine White, with her soulful vocals carrying traces of PJ Harvey and Jeff Buckley, will ignite the opening fire.
On the evening of Friday, August 14, New Zealand-born, London-based artist Len Blake will enchant listeners with her sweet-as-honey voice blending pop, indie, and R&B. Taking the stage afterwards, Little Grandad will turn the evening into joyful chaos with their chaotic and energetic live performances bringing a fresh take to the Americana-indie style.
Soaring Operas and a Massive 35th Anniversary Jazz Celebration
On Saturday evening, August 15, one of the festival’s most beloved classics, Songs of Love and Ecstasy, takes the stage. Under the direction of Chris Hopkins, Irish baritone Seán Boylan, Ukrainian tenor Egor Zhuravskii, Irish soprano Ava Dodd, and mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan will send the most unforgettable arias and musical pieces of Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Bernstein, and Rodgers & Hammerstein soaring into the sky.
Sunday, August 16 will see a truly massive jazz holiday! Celebrating its 35th anniversary, Tomorrow’s Warriors—the pioneering music foundation that radically transformed the British jazz scene—takes over the stage with a huge 6-hour launch marathon. Saxophonists Binker Golding and Denys Baptiste, the all-female Ankora collective, Nu Establishment (Gary Crosby & Zara McFarlane) dressing ska and reggae rhythms in jazz, the massive Tomorrow’s Warriors Big Band (featuring ESKA), and the Junior Band formed by young talents aged 14–16 (featuring Camilla George) will deliver an unforgettable marathon. Additionally, during the day, CAGED, an Afro-Gulf dance theatre show centered around a 3-meter-tall giant birdcage, will take the audience’s breath away.
Mystic Sounds of the East and Desert Funk Rhythms
On Monday evening, August 17, the Musical Dialogues of the East concert, presented in collaboration with the Aga Khan Music Programme, will build a mesmerizing bridge between East and West. Through the sounds of rubab, oud, qanun, cello, tabla, and guitar, the rich maqam and improvisation traditions of South Asia and the Middle East will meet at Coal Drops Yard.
On Tuesday, August 18, a multicultural storm will blow across the stage. Curated by Voices Radio, JAWARI, led by sitar artist Tommy Khosla, will offer an interdisciplinary musical feast; while the Sudanese group The Scorpios will blend Arabic rhythms and traditional Eastern melodies with Detroit funk, synths, and powerful brass, driving listeners into a rhythm that won’t let them sit still.
On Wednesday evening, August 19, in collaboration with Queer Britain and Sounds Queer, the most talented and diverse voices of the queer community will shine on stage. Hosted by Yshee Black, this special night will feature Kimmy Beatbox, one of the UK’s finest beatboxers, hyperpop artist Dyan Tai, soul and R&B vocalist Thandi Phoenix, rising name of new generation European R&B Arno Sacco, jazz vocalist Bessi, and DJ Toby Corton celebrating freedom and diversity.
On Thursday evening, August 20, Kings Place Jazz Orchestra brings the unforgettable works of the Great American Songbook to the stage with modern jazz interpretations; while on Friday, August 21, Fonda will enchant during the day with Latin rhythms, and in the evening, hosted by the English Folk Dance & Song Society, global folk group Mishra and progressive instrumental folk band Pons Aelius will take the spotlight.
Huge Gospel Choirs, Shows, and a Magnificent Grand Finale!
On Saturday evening, August 22, hosted by Arts Trust, the Motown Gospel Choir under the direction of Music Director Rachel Modest will transform over 20 timeless Motown classics—from Dancing in the Street to I Want You Back—into a joyful service with gospel arrangements.
In the grand finale of the festival on Sunday, August 23, a complete feast of choir and dance awaits! Parade – The Giant Wheel, a breathtaking procession around a 12-meter giant wheel spun by 5 dancers, youth samba group União da Mocidade carrying the spirit of the Brazilian Rio carnival, and London’s leading choral ensembles—male voice choir Chaps Choir, Soul Choir, West End Musical Choir, London City Voices, and the award-winning Rock Choir—will close the festival with the harmony of hundreds of voices.
