As part of the London Design Festival (LDF 2026), hARTslane Gallery—a former motorcycle workshop in New Cross Gate—transforms its raw industrial architecture into a haunting domestic space. Conceived by the multidisciplinary and intergenerational artistic network (BE)LONGING/S PROJECT, “(BE)LONGING/S 2.0: Phosphate of Calcium” centers on notions of “home,” belonging, displacement, and the uncanny across September 12 and September 14–20, 2026.
Free to visit without ticketing, the exhibition offers an extraordinarily broad memory of materials ranging from hybrid ceramic objects to sculptural installations, sound performances to documentary photography, and jewelry design to textile and canvas paintings. Extending the traditional boundaries of craft and design, the works in the space redefine the concept of “home,” moving it away from a safe haven to re-evaluate it through the fragility and uncanny nature of the material itself.
Prominent works featured in the exhibition include @michaelancholia’s Horror Vacui vase produced with porcelain, platinum, and custom glazes; Denise Laura Baker’s hand-stitched layered textile panel Protection, Destruction, Mitigation; and Malgorzata Lisiecka’s sculptural installation Unified. While Corrie Georgala’s Woven Shadows and Richa Vora’s Mantarlele Diwas canvases deepen the visual narrative, After Hunger—a noise opera composed by Cell Deletion using tape loops and metallic sounds—forms the auditory layer of the exhibition. Meanwhile, jewelry combining silver and textiles signed by BY MA Studio (Armaghan Fatemi) alongside Aleksandra Ishilla’s figurative intervention on bandage gauze and wood trace the physical and spatial memory.
Inviting participants to panel discussions, performances, and design workshops on “homing,” the project also establishes a bond of social solidarity by supporting a charity for the unhoused.
