The Wales Millennium Centre is thrilled to announce the last performances of “Nye,” featuring the renowned Welsh actor Michael Sheen.
This summer, one of the UK’s most cherished talents returns to his roots for a can’t-miss run as one of Wales’ most celebrated figures. This production is both joyful and humorous while also being uplifting and poignant.
Michael Sheen, known for his award-winning roles both on stage and screen, will once again embody the character of Aneurin “Nye” Bevan. A dedicated Welsh visionary, Bevan, against all odds, established the NHS, changing the lives of millions for the better.
Nye Bevan was a formidable political leader, fervently proud of his Welsh heritage and deeply committed to improving the quality of life for the less fortunate. This imaginative, witty, and emotionally powerful production vividly brings his remarkable story to life, one that continues to resonate with contemporary audiences.
Written by Tim Price and directed by Rufus Norris, “Nye” is a vibrant and unexpectedly entertaining exploration of the life of the man who made free healthcare a reality. It promises an engaging evening at the theatre—rich in humor, heart, and the indomitable spirit of a man who envisioned a better society.
After sold-out performances and glowing reviews in Cardiff and London, “Nye” will return to the Donald Gordon Theatre at the Wales Millennium Centre for a strictly limited run from August 22 to August 30, 2025. This will be the final chance to witness Michael Sheen’s extraordinary performance on home turf.
This is a story that Wales has shared with the world, brought to life by one of its greatest storytellers.
As Bevan reflects on the twilight of his life, his memories take center stage—from his upbringing as a coal miner’s son in Tredegar to the political battles in Westminster that transformed Britain’s future. The audience will meet his friends, rivals, and family, as Nye’s past is revealed with warmth and captivating theatricality.
A co-production between the Wales Millennium Centre and the National Theatre, “Nye” stands as a heartfelt tribute to a man whose vision and passion continue to influence the nation.
Joining Sheen is a talented cast that includes both new and returning performers, such as Remy Beasley, Matthew Bulgo, Jason Hughes, Kezrena James, Tony Jayawardena, Stephanie Jacob, Rebecca Killick, Rhodri Meilir, Sharon Small, and many more.
