Body, Flower, and Identity: Andrew Salgado’s “Florals & Figures” Exhibition at BEERS London

Every new exhibition by Andrew Salgado presents a unique opportunity to see how far he has moved away from his previous work and how much closer he has come to himself. In his relationship with BEERS London, which he has sustained since 2012, this Canadian-born, London-based painter poses the exact same question in a different way each time: What is a figure, and who is really there?

This time, the answer passes through flowers. The title “Florals & Figures” simultaneously speaks volumes while harboring a deliberate ambiguity. When harlequins, mysterious smokes, low-hanging moons, and the ruins of Bohemian destruction take their place in Salgado’s recent works, the borderline between the imagery of the flower and the imagery of the body becomes blurred. If you look at it from the perspective of the still-life tradition, the flower is a metaphor for ephemerality; yet, in Salgado’s hands, this metaphor never remains calm, nor can it preserve its innocence.

Born in 1982, the artist studied at the University of British Columbia and Chelsea College of Arts. Utilizing a blend of different mediums such as oil paint, pastel, spray paint, and collage, Salgado continuously pushes the boundaries of figurative painting. Themes of masculinity, identity, and emotional vulnerability have been at the center of his works from the very beginning; however, in recent years, it is also possible to observe how these themes have transformed into a theatrical stage, and how that stage has slipped into the absurd.

Planned for July 2026, this exhibition will mark the artist’s sixth solo showcase at BEERS London—a relationship that is no longer merely gallery-artist, but a shared linguistic and visual investigation. How the artist constructs the bridge between “florals” and “figures,” and what kind of encounter or conflict he stages, remains the primary point of curiosity.

BEERS London boasts one of London’s most dynamic contemporary gallery programs through its joint projects with the Saatchi Gallery and its international fair participations. Salgado has achieved 14 sold-out exhibitions with this gallery over a span of more than a decade—a datum that speaks for itself regarding his position in the market. Set to run until the end of summer, this exhibition is well worth planning for in July or August.
