The Slow Dissolution of the Body: “Nontiscordardime” by Marco Siciliano at Hošek Contemporary
Where does the body begin, where does space end? Is that invisible distance we place between ourselves and another’s presence merely a physical remoteness, or a psychosomatic ache seeping into our flesh? Berlin-based Italian artist Marco Siciliano traces precisely these questions and the uncanny intimacies between bodies through his interdisciplinary practice.
Focusing on that gray zone where boundaries between public and private spaces dissolve, the artist’s new exhibition “Nontiscordardime” takes place between August 14 and 29, 2026, at Berlin’s extraordinary art space on the river, Hošek Contemporary.
The Poetics of Distance and Psychosomatic Traces
Born in Caltagirone, Sicily in 1991, Siciliano’s practice stands at the intersection of architecture and bodily space. After studying Interior Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan, the artist continued his studies at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) in the class of Monica Bonvicini, one of the giant names in contemporary sculpture. He conceives space not as a passive backdrop, but as a living domain where bodies gain coordinates, hide, and fragment.
In Siciliano’s works, the viewer quietly witnesses the slow dissolution of bodies wavering between intimate spaces and uncertain geographies. The body transforms into a part of the space through psychosomatic pains, dynamics of distance and proximity (proxemics), and haptic memory.
Photographic Bricolage and Published Artist Books
The act of photographic serialization and accumulation stands out as a fundamental leitmotif in Siciliano’s research. Transforming singular visual elements into collections by multiplying them, the artist gathers this archive in self-published artist books. The artist’s independent publication Vergissmeinnicht, previously exhibited in Porto and Berlin and named after the “Forget-Me-Not” flower, is one of the most concrete examples of his desire for intimacy and documentation.
Opening its doors in mid-August, “Nontiscordardime” redefines the artist’s multi-layered material language through sculpture, spatial installation, and photography.
