The Emotional Geography of Memories: “Found Memories” by Channatip Chanvipava at Ames Yavuz London

Ames Yavuz gallery in London takes viewers on a captivating journey extending into the depths of memory, identity, and emotional transformation with “Found Memories,” the first solo exhibition at the gallery by Thai-British artist Channatip Chanvipava. Exhibited between July 16 and September 12, 2026, the selection consists of five main paintings, a single monumental canvas, four companion paintings, and five small “memory boxes” that function like emotional appendages to the primary works. Focusing on the months preceding the birth of the artist’s first child, identity evolution, surrogacy, and intercultural experiences, this exhibition treats memory like a readymade object, transforming past perceptions and experiences into new meanings.

While transforming autobiographical crumbs into psychologically charged environments, Chanvipava turns spaces such as interiors, airport immigration halls, neighborhood streets, and his own studio into emotional spaces where concepts of belonging, migration, and queer family are discussed. Evening walks with his partner, sleepless nights, and familial impulses inherited from his grandfather transform into an intuitive visual language on canvas where memories blend through layered textures, intense colors, and fluid brushstrokes. Instead of storing memories as a structured archive, the artist turns them into raw material, fragmenting, flattening, and recombining them, showing that the past and future, loss and affirmation can exist simultaneously. “Found Memories” questions how identity is reconstructed through movement, care, and intimate labor, presenting the act of remembering as the most powerful practice of survival and imagination.
