One of Berlin’s most established and majestic art spaces, Gropius Bau invites city dwellers who want to enjoy summer evenings to the 10th edition of its special night session project, Spätschicht. Taking place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, between 17:00 and 22:00, this year’s event is curated in collaboration with one of the city’s most dynamic cultural collectives, AL.Berlin.
Taking shape in the open air and on the south terrace of Gropius Bau, the program brings together live concerts, DJ sets, independent radio broadcasts, and special film screenings. Moreover, participation in this 5-hour summer evening marathon is completely free!
Operating as one of Berlin’s leading cultural platforms since 2019, AL.Berlin creates spaces where Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) and diasporic cultures meet contemporary art, music, and critical dialogue. Defining live music as a sensory experience that brings people together, establishes shared memory, and builds lasting bonds, the collective is known for its annual city-wide AL.Festival.
The special curation crowning the night was prepared through the joint work of the AL.Berlin team—Ziad Fayed, Eyal Vexler, Vivien Dawit, Krishan Rajapakshe, Hannah Fisher, Antonia Eckardt, and Ramez Melhem—along with Gropius Bau curators Nora-Swantje Almes, Alexandra Philippovskaya, Aylin Himmetoğlu, and Edessa Malke.
The rich program schedule spanning five hours promises art lovers an interdisciplinary and highly energetic evening:
