A Journey from Baltimore to Newark
In the early 2000s everything began with the desire to bring Baltimore Club music to Newark. When pioneers like DJ Tameil and Tim Dolla started playing Baltimore DJs’ tracks at Newark parties, they awakened a huge hunger. To meet that demand, Newark natives began producing their own “Brick City” sound.
The Foundation of the Rhythms: TEK 9 EP
DJ Tameil’s TEK 9 EP—and tracks like “Everybody” within it—are among the sonic documents that literally wrote the constitution of Jersey Club. Tameil’s approach was straight-up club-focused: he prioritized the fixed, bass-heavy, “locked-in” rhythms that would sound best blasting through powerful club speakers.
130 BPM and the Brick Bandits
Hovering around 130 BPM, this sonic signature became the structural skeleton of all Jersey Club music. Together with the collective known as Brick Bandits, Tameil planted the powerful seeds that would later inspire future super-groups (Project X, Twerknation28, 4KAE). “Everybody” is not merely a dance track; it is the energy of Newark’s streets captured and locked into an infinite loop.
