The Wales Millennium Centre is thrilled to announce the return of Matilda the Musical, the acclaimed adaptation of Roald Dahl’s cherished tale from the Royal Shakespeare Company. This festive favorite will grace the stage from December 9, 2026, to January 17, 2027.
Adding to the excitement, Roald Dahl was born in Cardiff, making this performance especially significant as it takes place just a stone’s throw from Roald Dahl Plass in the vibrant Cardiff Bay.
As Matilda the Musical celebrates its 15th anniversary, it will soon embark on a UK and Ireland tour, captivating audiences with its compelling storytelling, joyous spirit, and unforgettable score. This international sensation has enchanted over 12 million theatre fans across more than 100 cities worldwide.
The heartwarming tale follows an extraordinary young girl with a rich imagination and has garnered over 100 awards, including 24 for Best Musical. The production is brought to life by a remarkable creative team, including writer Dennis Kelly, composer and lyricist Tim Minchin, and director Matthew Warchus.
Writer Dennis Kelly expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m thrilled that Matilda is going on tour again in 2025 and 2026. It’s wonderful to share this little girl’s story with people in their own cities and towns, bringing theatre to where it truly matters.”
Co-Artistic Directors of the RSC, Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey, shared their excitement about returning to the stunning Wales Millennium Centre. They said, “We know Welsh audiences will appreciate Matilda’s brilliance, reminding us that ‘sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty’. Croeso ‘nôl i Gymru, Matilda Wormwood!”
Tickets will be available for Wales Millennium Centre members starting June 30, 2025, with general sales opening on July 4, 2025, at 10 AM.
