Joy Alpuerto Ritter’s Choreographic Response to Kazuko Miyamoto

Gate2 months ago134 Views

KW Institute for Contemporary Art is hosting a site-specific performance by Joy Alpuerto Ritter as part of Kazuko Miyamoto’s comprehensive String Constructions exhibition.

Dancer and choreographer Joy Alpuerto Ritter’s movement language is a multi-layered structure nourished by classical ballet, contemporary dance, Filipino and Polynesian traditions, as well as Berlin’s hip hop and voguing scenes. With her rhythmic, intuitive, and space-sensitive approach, this performance enters into a direct dialogue with one of Miyamoto’s largest String Construction works, Trail Dinosaur.

🕒  November 29, 2025, 15:00–17:00

The performance takes place over two hours in three 20-minute sequences:

  • 15:00
  • 15:45
  • 16:30

In each section, Ritter offers a bodily response to the linear geometry and tense structure of the string constructions; carrying Miyamoto’s historical relationship established with Yoshiko Chuma in 1979 into today’s movement aesthetics. This encounter reopens for discussion the invisible connections between body, space, form, and labor.
