Fairytale Rhythms of Everyday Moments: Grace Weaver’s “Parataxis” Exhibition is Coming to Berlin!

As we leave behind the quiet summer vacation breaks of August and step into the fresh energy of autumn, there is wonderful exhibition news from the Berlin art scene to warm our hearts! Bringing the most ordinary, smallest moments of daily life to the canvas with immense grace and humor, American artist Grace Weaver is preparing to appear before art lovers with her fresh solo exhibition, “Parataxis.”

Taking place through a partnership between Galerie Max Hetzler and Soy Capitán, this exciting exhibition will welcome visitors at Galerie Max Hetzler’s location at Bleibtreustraße 45 in Berlin from September 4 to October 24, 2026. Opening its doors to art lovers with a cocktail reception on Friday evening, September 4, from 18:00 to 20:00, the selection holds special significance as Grace Weaver’s seventh solo exhibition with the gallery.

Domestic Ceremonies, Subtle Humor, and Ancient Forms

Living and working between New York and Berlin, Grace Weaver invites us into the familiar, intimate atmosphere of domestic spaces in this new selection of works. The tall, curvy figures in the paintings transform the small rituals of daily life—like sitting in low chairs, holding an amphora, gathering around a table, or raising a glass—almost into sacred ceremonies.

The term Parataxis, which gives the exhibition its name, originates from the Greek paratassō, meaning “to place side by side” or “to arrange in order.” Weaver embodies this idea on her canvases in an exceptionally original language:

• Bodies and Objects: Bodies, tables, and amphoras complete one another in a visual rhythm; while a figure’s shoulder catches the curve of an amphora handle, the upright backrest of a chair matches the figure’s posture.
• Ancient Winds: Symmetrical front surfaces and sharp profiles evoke Mesopotamian seals, ancient reliefs, and Trojan goblets; while a deep universe of meaning is created through the repetition of everyday movements, much like in the literature of James Joyce.
• The Magic of Colors: Cobalt blues and vibrant color tones inspired by Mycenaean frescoes flow with a natural freshness—looking not as if applied onto the surface of the canvas later, but as if woven directly into the texture of the fabric.

Gliding her brush from left to right across large-scale paintings as if crafting a manuscript scroll, Weaver paints a fingernail or a hand with a single brushstroke on her small-format canvases, capturing immense expressive power with minimal materials.
