- 🌟 Do you remember? When you first thought of fire, did you picture a building or nature?
When we first thought about fire, we were thinking of fires that happen in homes and buildings.
- 🌟 The idea of turning something “worthless” like mining waste into a life-saving product—where did that spark come from?
Seeing piles of mining waste sitting by the roadside, polluting the soil and water, made us realize they urgently needed to be repurposed.
- 🌟 What was the first reaction from those around you when you shared this idea? Did anyone say, “What’s the point?”
Some people said, “Focus on your academic career; don’t waste time on things like this.”
- 🌟 While working on something as critical as preventing fires, what was the biggest fear you faced within yourself?
I started to fear what would happen if a fire broke out in my own home. The more I realized how central and massive a risk this disaster is in our lives, the stronger my drive became to work on preventive solutions.
- 🌟 On the day you felt the most defeated, what were you losing to, if not the fire itself?
There was a moment when I was really scared because, despite how vital and life-relevant our product is, it wasn’t getting the attention it deserved. Even though we had scientifically developed a product, the lack of sufficient support and interest was disheartening. It’s crushing to see a solution to the fires we hear about in the news every day and not be able to make it widely used. That was truly draining.
- 🌟 If FIRE-STOPPER were a color, would it be ash gray or grass green?
It would be grass green. This product is developed with green, eco-friendly methods and doesn’t harm nature.
- 🌟 Was there anyone in the team who “held the flame”—someone who always kept the motivation high?
Usually, I’m the one who takes on that role in the team. I believe one of the biggest responsibilities of leading a group is keeping motivation high, no matter what.
- 🌟 Everyone talks about sustainability, but what do you think “true sustainability” starts with?
It starts with circularity. It’s about taking something from nature and returning it without causing harm. It’s not enough for a product to be made of natural components or produced with eco-friendly methods—it needs to provide additional benefits to nature. Just using the waste we’ve produced so far isn’t enough. We need to transform that waste using green methods into advanced technological materials. To develop a truly green product, we must work based on the principles of a circular economy. Otherwise, we can’t claim to be working in sustainability.
- 🌟 What was the moment when you thought, “I wish someone had seen this”?
I wish everyone could have seen the moment we got our first product and conducted the initial flame tests. I wanted them to witness highly flammable materials not burning.
- 🌟 If FIRE-STOPPER were a superhero, would it wear a mask? If so, what would it look like?
It would have a fiery mask.
