September 13 – October 11, 2025

GR Gallery, New York

The works of three distinct artists, woven with storytelling, emotional depth, and imagination, come together in the FREAKS exhibition. Featuring 15 paintings and sculptures by Kazy Chan, Satoru Koizumi, and Suanjaya Kencut, the exhibition invites viewers into a strange, captivating, and thought-provoking universe.

Referencing Tod Browning’s 1932 film Freaks, the exhibition reexamines the boundaries between “normal” and “unusual.” It creates an atmosphere where innocence and melancholy, allure and unease, social critique and irony intertwine.

Koizumi’s wooden figures, half-human and half-animal, evoke both serene and unsettling feelings. Kencut’s soft-gazed puppet characters craft silent narratives embedded in everyday moments. Chan’s vibrant, dreamlike canvases unfold a world steeped in transformation and self-reflection.

FREAKS not only invites viewers to observe but also to question their own naivety, lost memories, and perceptions of identity. The exhibition serves as a reminder of art’s ability to be both delightful and profound, offering space to pause, reflect, and perhaps begin anew.
