Music Fans React to BRIT Awards Moving to Manchester

June 10, 20253 min read

Music enthusiasts have shared their thoughts following today’s announcement that the BRIT Awards will be held in Manchester in 2026, marking a significant departure from the event’s nearly 50-year history in London.

The organizers of the UK’s premier music awards revealed that the prestigious event will make its first-ever move to the northern city, starting next year. Dr. Jo Twist, CEO of the British Phonographic Industry, expressed that it’s time to explore different parts of the UK to connect with fans, saying, “We’ve had a fantastic history in London, and now feels like the right moment to take a bold leap.”

Twist highlighted Manchester’s vibrant musical heritage and its supportive ecosystem, which includes numerous grassroots venues. Jason Isley, CEO of Sony Music U.K. & Ireland, added that holding the event in a city known for iconic artists will revitalize the show and build upon the BRITs’ legacy of celebrating exceptional music.

Renowned for its cultural offerings and legends like Oasis and The Stone Roses, many Mancunians are excited about the recognition coming to their city. Manchester’s mayor, Andy Burnham, remarked, “Hosting the BRIT Awards in a city famous for its nightlife is the next chapter in its story, and we’ll ensure it’s done in style.”

However, the announcement has stirred mixed reactions online. While some fans have voiced their enthusiasm, others have expressed disappointment over the event leaving the capital. One social media user said, “This is absolutely BRILLIANT news! I’m thrilled the BRITs are moving from London and spreading the music scene across the nation!” In contrast, another user lamented, “That’s such a downgrade. Why move? London is the capital. Big artists may not attend now.”

As for what to expect from the upcoming BRIT Awards, they will continue to be a celebration of the best in UK music. Since their inception in 1977, the BRITs have grown to become the country’s highest-profile music event, traditionally held in various London venues each March. Artists like Adele and Coldplay have received multiple awards, with Robbie Williams holding the record for the most BRIT awards.

The next BRIT Awards are scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Co-op Live venue. The ceremony will be streamed on TV alongside the live event, allowing fans to join in from wherever they are. Details on ticket sales are not yet available, but fans interested in attending can sign up for notifications from Co-op Live for updates on ticketing information.
