With its healing joy, that famous “Believe” banner written on yellow paper, and boxes upon boxes of biscuits, Ted Lasso, one of the warmest stories on our screens, returns after a full four-year silence. Following Season 3’s emotional farewell in 2023, we were convinced the story had ended. However, Apple TV+ officially announced with a surprise trailer that Ted Lasso Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

This time, however, we do not have the familiar Richmond FC men’s team before us; Ted Lasso faces the biggest, most fragile, and most entertaining test of his career: a second-division women’s football team!

Return to Richmond: “Leap Before You Look”

If you recall, in the Season 3 finale, Ted left Richmond FC at the peak of its Premier League journey and returned to Kansas to spend time with his son Henry. After that satisfying closure where characters went their separate ways, Season 4 answers the question “How will the series continue?” in everyone’s minds with a radical narrative shift.

Returning to Richmond, Ted takes charge of the second-division women’s football team (Lady Greyhounds) this time. Resetting the classic “success story” formula, the series confronts Ted and the team with the principle of “leap before you look.” In the trailer, even Dani Rojas’ legendary motto “Football is life” is updated by the women players to “Life is so much more than football,” to which Ted’s response is swift: “Not as catchy, but accurate!”

Full Original Cast, New Faces on the Pitch

The legendary core cast largely retains its place. Emmy winner Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca), Juno Temple (Keeley), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Jeremy Swift (Higgins) are back on the pitch in the new season.

Fresh blood joining the cast this season includes Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely. Furthermore, Emmy winner Jack Burditt, known for series like Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, and 30 Rock, joins the team as executive producer.

High Tempo in the Trailer: Featuring Mumford & Sons and Hozier

The newly released first trailer opens to the soundtrack of “Rubber Band Man,” performed jointly by Mumford & Sons and Hozier. This musical choice speaks volumes about the season: nostalgic, upbeat, slightly melancholic, but just as hopeful. In the trailer, Ted’s initial growing pains adapting to the women’s team and once again pushing the boundaries of mustache-clad optimism multiply expectations for the season.

NO-26 Editor’s Boiler Room Note

The Season 3 finale was actually a very neat and lovely farewell; that’s why when the idea of Season 4 was first heard, it raised concerns for most of us: “Should they have quit while ahead?” However, the released trailer and the focus on a women’s football team demonstrate that instead of repeating itself, the show has found a completely different and fresh room to grow. We can’t wait to brew that tea (sorry, hot brown water!) on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, August 5, and reunite with Ted!
