Located in Savile Row, one of London’s art hubs, Pilar Corrias takes viewers on a fascinating journey of transformation with its thematic exhibition “Soft Spot,” which stretches the boundaries of form, material, and the body. Conceived in two phases, the first edition of the exhibition opened on June 26 and can be visited until August 21, 2026. Bringing together works by Sophie von Hellermann, Pierre Knop, Manuel Mathieu, Mary Ramsden, Rachel Rose, Tschabalala Self, and Lina Iris Viktor, this special selection unfortunately has only a few days left before it closes.
“Soft Spot” focuses on those moments of stretching and softening where forms loosen, surfaces bend, and bodies twist, fragment, and multiply. What emerges in the exhibition is not a collapse or destruction, but rather a state of “charged ambiguity” in which solid forms dissolve, rendering themselves legible anew. Holding the artworks in transitional phases rather than definitive conclusions, the exhibition reveals the shape-shifting potential of material, image, and figure.
Transformation of Body, Memory, and Form
A large portion of the featured works in the exhibition demonstrates that form is not static, but a continuously unfolding and evolving process:
Transforming Bodies: The question of bodily transformation takes center stage in the works of Lina Iris Viktor and Tschabalala Self. Viktor’s sculpture Soul Vessel I (2024), crafted from bronze and clay, along with her Metacosmia V work utilizing 24-karat gold and silk, bring together organic and symbolic forms into an ancient yet fluid presence. Meanwhile, Self’s canvas titled Desire (2025) questions concepts of identity and selfhood through fragmented figures.
Ambiguity and Fluidity: The paintings of Mary Ramsden and Manuel Mathieu embody a similar fluidity. On Ramsden’s layered surfaces, forms emerge and dissolve, moving freely between figuration and abstraction. Mathieu’s kaleidoscopic compositions, such as Stitching us back together, resist fixed interpretation by blending traces of spaces, individuals, and memory with abstraction.
New Works Created for the Exhibition: The selection includes two new paintings produced by Mary Ramsden ahead of her solo exhibition at Pilar Corrias in September 2026, alongside fresh paintings created specifically for this show by Sophie von Hellermann (Seargent and Zigander) and Pierre Knop (Portrait of shadows). Rachel Rose’s work Slip (1660) II completes this multi-layered dialogue.
