Placing the question “Whose life are you living?” at the center of an existential thriller, Dark Matter returns to Apple TV+ screens after a two-year break. Starring Joel Edgerton and Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly, the highly anticipated Season 2 trailer of the series was released at San Diego Comic-Con. From Blake Crouch’s Universe to Beyond the Novel
The series was adapted from Blake Crouch’s 2016 cult sci-fi novel of the same name. The first season, released in 2024, focused on physicist Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) being drugged and kidnapped, finding himself in an alternative parallel life that he didn’t choose, yet still belongs to him. Unchosen decisions, missed opportunities, and abandoned careers… This setup, where every door opens to another “you,” focused on sci-fi’s most insatiable question: Who else could you have been?
Since the first season completed the main narrative in Crouch’s novel, Season 2 expands the story within an original framework by carrying it beyond the boundaries of the book. For this reason, it is essential to watch Season 1 before starting the new season, as the new story picks up directly from where the first season left off.

Meeting the audience at San Diego Comic-Con, the trailer begins from that fragile moment when Jason returns to his own world and family. However, whether this return is permanent and safe remains a major question mark. The mental and physical scars left by parallel universes, the necessity of confronting other alternative versions, and the state of not knowing whom to trust form the main tension line of the new season.
The character Daniela, played by Jennifer Connelly, was in the position of both victim and perpetrator in the first season.
