Gently swaying on the River Spree in the heart of Berlin, the Motor Ship HEIMATLAND is preparing to host a very special confrontation next month. Hošek Contemporary has announced the exhibition “An Address That is Waiting” by visual artist and poet Ece Eldek, the recipient of the gallery’s 2026 Art Prize. Eldek, who splits her time between Istanbul and Berlin, explores migration not merely as a physical movement, but as a spiritual “state of being” in this exhibition opening on May 2nd.
For Ece Eldek, migration is not the flow from one point to another; it is the long, often invisible state of waiting that emerges right in the middle of that flow. The works in the exhibition delve into the paradoxical endurance hidden behind the phrase “this is a temporary address.” She examines how those addresses, which appear temporary on paper, transform in practice into an endless void suspended between arrival and belonging.

Taking place on a ship moored along the Märkisches Ufer in the historic fabric of Berlin-Mitte, the exhibition achieves a poetic harmony with the venue’s own identity of “journey and stillness.” The narrative, built by the artist through her dual identity as both a poet and a visual artist, confronts the audience with the weight of not just leaving a place, but of “never quite fully arriving” at a new one.
