The provocative, eccentric genius of Surrealism, Salvador Dalí, returns with his graphic works at Shapero Modern. From 26 November 2025 to 1 February 2026, the gallery presents striking examples from the artist’s vast and complex oeuvre.
The absolute centrepiece of the exhibition is the rare and complete series The Twelve Tribes of Israel (1973), in which Dalí fuses biblical prophecy with his unmistakable surrealist vision. This extraordinary set not only includes the double-signed artist’s proofs hand-painted by Dalí in watercolour, but also the original copper plates used for printing. This exceptional group remained in the personal collection of the series’ publisher, Alex Rosenberg, until his death in 2022.
Freud’s Influence and a Symbolic Universe
Salvador Dalí is renowned for his distinctive surrealist style, deeply inspired by Freudian theories of the unconscious. The works on display merge religious symbolism with the artist’s intricate and bizarre aesthetic.
Alongside the main collection, individual prints are featured from Dalí’s satirical Les Caprices de Goya series and the opulent Les Diners de Gala series, including:
- Anti-Umbrella with Atomized Liquid (1975)
- Liquid and Gaseous Television (1975)
- Freud with Snail-head (1974)
- A Shattering Entrance to the USA (1974)
These pieces open vital doors into Dalí’s world, where technology, mythology, and dream-logic collide. His graphic works prove that he was not merely a painter but an archaeologist of the subconscious.
