Music Discovery of the Day: DEADLETTER – “To the Brim”

PlakRecord Player6 months ago235 Views

Yorkshire-born but rooted in the London scene, DEADLETTER

is one of those rare bands that fuses post-punk’s razor-sharp intellect with the sweat of the dance floor.

Gang of Four’s political acidity, Talking Heads’ angular rhythms,

and a despairing humour that belongs entirely to their own generation…

All of it overflows in “To the Brim”.

🔥 The track feels like an inner monologue written on the body of denial.

Realising something is deeply wrong yet still looking away—

repressing yourself until you’re filled to the absolute brim.

In the band’s own words: “literally full to the brim with despair.”

That line captures both an individual and a collective state of mind:

the unbearable weight of being aware of everything yet unable to do anything about it.

🎙️ Zac Lawrence’s vocals are like an urban megaphone:

shouting without screaming, furious yet restrained.

Their new album Existence Is Bliss—ironic title and all—

makes the burden of existence dance;

it forces us to move even as it confronts us with our own denial.

🔗 Apartman No:26 Note:

DEADLETTER is currently the strongest “sociological observer” in the UK post-punk scene.

“To the Brim” is an era-defining record of suppressed rage turned into rhythm.

By transforming existential anguish into stage energy, the band turns despair into a collective catharsis.
