MCU fans may mourn the derailment of Kang the Conqueror—the saga’s designated big bad after Thanos—but this tidbit Michael Waldron dropped reveals the comedic gold we’ll never see. While hyping his new series “Chad Powers,” Waldron joined a Reddit AMA and, alongside co-writer Jeff Loveness, spilled the beans on one brilliantly stupid scene they cooked up.
The writers had the Young Avengers finally take down a Kang variant and strut around like they’d just won the Super Bowl… only for the rug to be yanked out from under them. Waldron described it like this:
“We had a version where the Young Avengers beat a Kang and were super proud of it… then they discover he’s wearing a little card that says ‘Please Be Patient With Me, It’s My First Day as Kang.’ And it just crushes them.”
Waldron even hinted this rookie Kang might have been the Lizard Kang we glimpsed at the end of Quantumania.
A Hilarious Send-Off and Lost Potential
The moment would have been pure comic-book fan service—Young Avengers have tangled with Kang plenty of times in the panels. More importantly, that “Please Be Patient” gag is peak Waldron absurdity, the exact brand of brain-melt humor you’d expect from the guy who gave us Rick and Morty. Watching heroes have their victory deflated by a laminated rookie badge? It was destined to be one of the MCU’s all-time gut-busters.
We’ll never know exactly what Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would have become. Still, knowing that Jeremy Renner once confirmed Marvel had “big plans” for Kang—and that weird, wonderful ideas like this were floating around the writers’ room—offers fans a sliver of comfort.
