From Algorithm to Bronze: Aaron Scheer’s “Aeonesis” Exhibition on Artificial Intelligence and the Human Touch

November 3, 20252 min read

How is our sense of self transforming in the age of artificial intelligence and technological acceleration? Painter Aaron Scheer’s third solo exhibition at OFFICE IMPART gallery, “Aeonesis,” pursues this existential question. By turning algorithm-generated sketches into hand-finished bronze reliefs, Scheer aims to pry open AI’s infamous “black box” through an artistic process. The resulting works resemble organic remnants of a future that is distant yet eerily familiar.

The exhibition is not merely a critique of technology but also a recalibration of creative authorship. Scheer’s art moves between machine logic and human intuition, transforming the emergence of evolving hybrid forms—where nature and machine converge—into a kind of alchemy. As Cornelia Sollfrank puts it, the works trace the relationships among technoculture, capital, and material entities in a context where “pure nature does not exist,” within plural constellations.

The exhibition’s centerpiece consists of three works titled “Aeonesis”: bronze reliefs and one piece made of acrylic glass. The bronzes possess a quiet monumentality that evokes geological formation, while the acrylic glass works suspend forms in the midst of metamorphosis. The artist’s own practice begins with extracting digital images from text-based uncertainty—a process that blends poetics and computational archaeology. Scheer describes this as a “movement of cognition and surrender,” expressing his emotions by modeling them with his hands. For him, art is a means to bring a humane perspective to technology and to peek behind its façade.

Having spent much of his childhood without computers, Scheer viewed the digital as something alien and has explored technology as a key through his art. This exhibition offers a vision of coexistence in which technology and nature echo not as opposing dualities but as parts of the same whole.
