The inspiring true story of Dave Fishwick, a self-made millionaire who challenged London’s banking elite, is making its way to the stage as “Bank of Dave The Musical.” The world premiere is scheduled for May 2026, featuring performances at The Lowry in Salford and Curve in Leicester.
This musical draws from the bestselling Sunday Times book, a BAFTA-winning documentary, and the widely acclaimed Netflix film. The production boasts a book and lyrics by Rob Madge, known for “My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?),” alongside music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary of “The Great British Bake Off Musical.” Direction will be in the hands of Curve’s Artistic Director, Nikolai Foster.
The story revolves around Dave Fishwick, a Burnley local who, disillusioned with the banking system, decided to create his own bank to support his community. With the aid of a dedicated lawyer, he embarks on a mission to confront the powerful financial tycoons in his quest for a fairer banking system.
Dave Fishwick himself has shared his excitement, calling this journey “surreal.” Reflecting on his transformation from a laborer with no formal qualifications to establishing the first new high street bank in 150 years, he humorously noted, “From Burnley to Broadway—after a stop at the magnificent Lowry in Salford and Curve in Leicester!”
Heralded as a feel-good production rich in “northern grit, laugh-out-loud humor,” and a message of hope and resilience, tickets for performances at The Lowry are already available, with tickets for Curve going on sale from October 7.
