Fleetwood Mac Denies Reunion Plans for J.K. Rowling’s 60th Birthday Celebration

September 22, 20252 min read

Fleetwood Mac has issued a statement in response to rumors that they would be reuniting to perform at J.K. Rowling’s upcoming 60th birthday party.

The iconic band has not shared a stage since a charity concert for a children’s hospital in San Francisco back in November 2019, and many believed that a reunion was highly unlikely following Christine McVie’s passing in 2022.

Recently, a report from the Daily Mail claimed that the famed author of the Harry Potter series was considering hiring the band for her two-day birthday celebration later this year.

However, the band’s representatives quickly refuted these claims, telling Rolling Stone that the report is “categorically false” and “not grounded in truth.”

In April 2018, Lindsey Buckingham was let go from the band due to what was called a “disagreement” about an upcoming tour. Following this, Fleetwood Mac toured from 2018 to 2019 with Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House filling in for Buckingham.

After this tour wrapped up, the band entered a period of inactivity. Stevie Nicks has previously stated that without McVie, there’s “no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together,” while Mick Fleetwood remarked in 2023 that “the line in the sand has been drawn” with her loss, though he acknowledged that such sentiments have been expressed before.

Despite the lack of a reunion on the horizon, Nicks and Buckingham have recently stirred fresh speculation about a potential revival of their duo, Buckingham Nicks. They shared a nostalgic Instagram post on September 5 featuring a clip from a past performance, along with a caption hinting at a memory of their early work.

Additionally, Nicks has been busy working on a new album, claiming it is composed of “real stories, memories of mine, of fantastic men.” Meanwhile, Fleetwood and Buckingham joined Miley Cyrus on her recent single, “Secrets,” featured in the deluxe edition of her latest album, Something Beautiful.
