Dwayne Johnson recently opened up in an interview about the anxiety he felt before filming his latest project, The Smashing Machine, set to hit theaters on October 3rd. The film tells the story of Mark Kerr, a former MMA and UFC fighter, and delves into his tumultuous relationship with his ex-wife, Dawn Staples, played by Emily Blunt.
Known for his roles in high-octane action films, Johnson faced a new challenge with The Smashing Machine, marking his first serious role in his acting career. He admitted to feeling “scared” as he prepared for the character, unsure if he was adequate for the task at hand.
“It was a very intense experience. I hadn’t felt that level of fear in years, questioning whether I could pull it off,” he shared. “I came to realize that perhaps I hadn’t been around these opportunities because I was too afraid to take that leap.”
Emily Blunt, who has previously worked with Johnson on Jungle Cruise, expressed her confidence in him taking on this more demanding role. “Having that trust with someone really enhances the work, allowing the scenes to flourish, even when they’re incredibly challenging,” Blunt stated.
The Smashing Machine is set for its theatrical release on October 3rd, and you can check out the trailer below.
