The acclaimed one-person play “Every Brilliant Thing” is set for its highly anticipated debut in the West End at @sohoplace theatre from August 1 to September 27, 2025. Presented by Second Half Productions in collaboration with Nica Burns and Paines Plough, this heartwarming and humorous performance is sure to captivate London audiences.
Written by Duncan Macmillan alongside Jonny Donahoe, and directed by Jeremy Herrin and Macmillan, “Every Brilliant Thing” follows a child who creates a list of everything wonderful in the world to help their mother manage her depression. As the list evolves throughout adulthood, it gains significant meaning in their own life, showcasing the incredible lengths we go to for those we care about.
Initially enthralling audiences at Paines Plough’s Roundabout at Summerhall in 2014, this beloved play has since resonated with viewers in over 80 countries and was adapted into a successful HBO film. The West End production will feature a dynamic rotating cast of four talented actors, each bringing their own flair to this poignant story.
The season will open with the celebrated Lenny Henry (Othello, August in England), followed by Jonny Donahoe, the play’s co-creator and original star. Audiences will also see Ambika Mod (One Day, This is Going to Hurt) and the beloved Sue Perkins (The Great British Bake Off, Just a Minute) later in the run.
With design by Vicki Mortimer, lighting by Jack Knowles, and sound by Tom Gibbons, “Every Brilliant Thing” promises to deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience. This production is a tribute to the enduring power of hope, love, and the little brilliant things that make life worth living.
