Meg Mathews, the ex-wife of Noel Gallagher, has addressed rumors surrounding her early exit from Oasis’ highly-anticipated reunion concert in Cardiff on July 4.
The Britpop legends made a triumphant return to the stage after a 16-year hiatus, performing to an audience of over 70,000 at the Principality Stadium. Mathews, who was married to the band’s guitarist and songwriter from 1997 to 2001 and is the mother of his daughter Anaïs, was present at the event, but was spotted leaving during the encore of “Wonderwall.”
In an Instagram post the following day, Mathews sought to dispel tabloid claims that she left due to the emotional weight of the song, which Noel has previously mentioned was inspired by her. “Five stars, loved every minute, thank you Oasis…you were amazing,” she wrote. She continued, “It was definitely worth the wait. And to all the papers, I often leave stadiums before encores to avoid the chaos. Yes, I could hear ‘Wonderwall’ as I walked to my car! Happy now?”
Anaïs Gallagher was also in attendance that night, sharing her excitement on Instagram with a nod to the band’s opening track, “Hello.”
The second Cardiff show saw Noel and Liam Gallagher take the stage together once more, greeting each other and performing to a captivated audience. The reunion tour has also sparked discussions, with both brothers humorously addressing Ticketmaster’s ticket pricing issues during the first night of the series.
The concert not only featured a wide array of hits but also included a tribute to the late Liverpool star Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away just days before the event.
Fans have taken to social media to express their enthusiasm, with many declaring the performance a historic moment in music. Ongoing shows are planned across various cities, promising even more excitement for Oasis fans in the upcoming months.
