Liam Payne’s Sister Expresses Deep Pride Watching Him in Netflix’s ‘Building The Band’

June 27, 20252 min read

Liam Payne’s sister has opened up about the profound sense of pride she feels seeing the late star in his Netflix series, Building The Band.

Ruth Gibbins shared her thoughts in an Instagram story, reflecting on the impact of the show featuring her brother, who tragically passed away at the age of 31 in October 2024.

She posted the show’s trailer, released on June 11, saying, “I hesitated to share this, but it felt wrong not to, especially after celebrating Liam’s work and achievements for the past 15 years.”

Ruth expressed her heartache that he didn’t get to witness how remarkable he is in the show. “He always knew he did a good job; we told him that while filming. But watching it back… wow! You’re a star, Liam—you always were and always will be,” she wrote. “I felt a whirlwind of emotions, but above all, immeasurable pride. I miss you more every day.”

Liam passed away after a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. An investigation revealed that his death was caused by multiple trauma and internal bleeding.

In April, six months after his passing, Gibbins shared a heartfelt message about her loss, saying, “Living without you feels impossible. Each day is a reminder of the laughter we shared, but I’m left with only memories.”

Building The Band features Liam as a judge alongside Kelly Rowland and Nicole Scherzinger, who also mentors contestants. The series focuses on helping aspiring singers find their ideal bandmates through musical compatibility rather than looks.

The first four episodes will premiere on Netflix on July 9, with additional episodes following on July 16 and July 23.
