A gripping exploration of OCD, psychological abuse, and the complexities of haircutting, “Split Ends” is a powerful solo show by esteemed writer, director, and performer Claudia Shnier. Following its success at the Brighton Fringe, this unique production makes its Edinburgh Fringe debut at the Pleasance Courtyard, running from July 30 to August 17, 2025, before moving to the Camden Fringe from August 18 to 20 at the Water Rats.
Inspired by her life experiences, “Split Ends” details Shnier’s journey through obsessive-compulsive disorder, coercive control, and manipulative relationships. After coming to the UK for her Master’s degree at RADA, Claudia became fixated on both love and cutting her hair. As she worked her way out of a toxic relationship, she crafted a darkly humorous and startling play that dives into the relationship between her and a vacuum – a seemingly innocent object that turns sinister.
Presented through innovatively designed puppetry, musical elements, and physical theatre, “Split Ends” offers a raw glimpse into power dynamics and mental health challenges. Critics have described it as “unsettling yet unforgettable,” highlighting its significant emotional depth and importance. The show was even shortlisted for the Best New Show Award at the Brighton Fringe.
Claudia Shnier, an interdisciplinary artist trained in Australia and now based in London, navigates the entire creative process of this production. This marks her first full solo work since graduating from RADA, showcasing her multifaceted talents.
“Pouring my heart into this piece has been immensely healing,” Claudia shares. “It allows me to voice an experience that I struggled to express for so long.”
