Amber Heard has been cast in a new play, marking her return to the stage.
The 39-year-old actress faced significant challenges in her career following a defamation lawsuit filed by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Since the highly publicized trial in 2022, which saw her subjected to intense scrutiny and abuse, she has not appeared in any television or film projects.
Now, Heard will join a talented ensemble in Jeremy O. Harris’ upcoming play, ‘Spirit of the People.’ Variety reported on Monday that she will share the stage with Brandon Flynn and Lío Mehiel in this world premiere, directed by Katina Medina Mora, as part of the 2025 Williamstown Theatre Festival.
The cast also includes previously announced actors like Tony Award nominees Ato Blankson-Wood and James Cusati-Moyer, along with Amandla Jahava, Emma Ramos, Julian Sanchez, Zachary Booth, and Tonatiuh. Fans of television may recognize Flynn from Netflix’s hit series ’13 Reasons Why,’ while Mehiel is known for the acclaimed 2023 film ‘Mutt.’
Jeremy O. Harris, a celebrated playwright and actor, is renowned for his hit West End productions ‘Slave Play’ and ‘Daddy.’ The 2025 Williamstown Theatre Festival is set to run from July 17 to August 3.
