Netflix’s record-breaking South Korean series Squid Game is set to conclude with its third season, premiering on June 27, 2025. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed he is considering spin-off projects to expand the Squid Game universe after the final season. The director hinted that a new story could explore the three-year gap between the first and second seasons, with a particular focus on the mysterious character Front Man’s backstory.

Dong-hyuk, who has faced significant health challenges due to the intense production process, shared with Entertainment Weekly the physical toll it took: “I lost eight teeth during the first season and two during the third.” He explained that seasons 2 and 3 were written and filmed simultaneously, describing the nearly year-long marathon as grueling. Netflix also announced plans to transform Squid Game into a global brand, with a David Fincher-directed American adaptation in development.
