Although Jack Black reached the peak of fame with School of Rock in 2003, the journey was far from easy. Black began his career in the early ’90s with low-profile roles, first gaining attention in Bob Roberts (1992). In 1993, he landed a small role in Sylvester Stallone’s Demolition Man, hoping for a big break. However, setbacks on set dashed those hopes, leaving Black as a barely noticeable extra in the film.

Despite preparing for his role, Black made a timing mistake on set, and with his scene wrapped up early, he missed the chance for more screen time. Though this felt like a significant loss for his career at the time, he later admitted it wasn’t a big deal. While Demolition Man became a cult success for Stallone, Black’s true breakthrough came with High Fidelity (2000) and School of Rock (2003). Today, he recalls that minor setback as an insignificant detail in his career.
