As the last days of summer fade away, London is already gearing up for its enchanting winter transformation. Two of the capital’s most iconic destinations, Carnaby Street and Covent Garden, have revealed their official 2026 Christmas light switch-on dates alongside this season’s bespoke concepts.

Carnaby Street illuminates this winter with a vibrant concept drawing inspiration from the playful, nostalgic spirit of the 1990s.
Maintaining a strong focus on sustainability, the installation repurposes 60,000 energy-efficient LED light boxes from previous displays, reimagined with a retro 90s twist.
While Regent Street—which traditionally shares its switch-on date with Carnaby—has yet to formally confirm its schedule, the illumination is widely expected to coincide on the same evening.

Covent Garden marks a grand return to the festive calendar with its highly anticipated “Theatre of Christmas” theme.
The launch ceremony, hosted from the balcony of the historic Market Building, will light up a massive UK-grown Christmas tree on the West Piazza alongside the iconic giant gold bells, mirrored globes, and oversized ornaments gracing the market hall.
Continuing its eco-conscious commitment, the Covent Garden team is once again re-purposing its beloved large-scale decorative installations from past seasons.
As with every year, tickets for London’s most sought-after Santa’s Grotto experiences are selling out rapidly. Visitors mapping out their winter itineraries across the city are strongly advised to secure their bookings well in advance.
