The Limits of the Mind: Cipher’s Powers and the Shocking Season Finale in “Gen V”

October 1, 20252 min read

Gen V, much like its parent series The Boys, upends the superhero world with unpredictable twists. One of this season’s biggest mysteries revolved around the identity and powers of Godolkin University’s new dean, Cipher. Marie and her friends noticed that even her name, meaning “code,” hinted at a hidden message. The season finale proved just how right their suspicions were.

For a long time, the group believed Cipher had no powers. But when Cate secretly recorded her, they were hit with a major shock. Cipher revealed she knew Cate’s plan by reading her mind, then manipulated both Cate and Jordan through mind control. This unveiled Cipher’s power: telepathy. Unlike Cate, she doesn’t need to touch someone to use her abilities; she can control minds from a distance.

The real twist, however, came next. Cate and Jordan discovered a hidden safe in Cipher’s home containing a severely burned man hooked to a ventilator. Cipher claimed this man was her father. This sparked a compelling theory: could this burned figure be Thomas Godolkin, the founder of Godolkin University?

According to the theory, the true telepath might not be Cipher but Thomas Godolkin. Marie’s inability to detect Compound V in Cipher’s blood supports this idea. If Godolkin, despite his burned body, is still psychically alive, he could be using Cipher as a puppet to interact with the outside world. This would also explain Godolkin’s obsessive interest in Marie, whose blood-control powers might hold the key to healing his burns. The name “Cipher” fits perfectly into this mystery, whispering that the real message might be “Godolkin.”

Gen V keeps viewers on their toes with cleverly crafted mysteries, inviting constant theorizing. What do you think—how plausible is this theory?
