From May 30 to August 2, 2025, Sprüth Magers Los Angeles presents “About Painting”, an exhibition featuring Italian artist Salvo (1947–2015) and German artist Andreas Schulze (b. 1955). This show highlights how both artists have explored the possibilities of painting and developed their own distinctive visual languages.
Though from different generations and cultural backgrounds, Salvo and Schulze share surprising parallels in their approach to painting. Both challenge traditional boundaries, reinterpreting familiar themes and motifs through their uniquely personal styles. Through their works, the exhibition emphasizes that painting is not merely an image—it is also an idea, a feeling, and a means of dialogue.
“About Painting” invites viewers to reflect on what painting means, how it is made, and what it can communicate. The artists’ clever relationships with color, form, and composition are key to what sets them apart in the contemporary art scene. The exhibition not only pays tribute to Salvo’s legacy but also enriches it through Andreas Schulze’s ongoing practice, showcasing the ever-evolving nature of painting.
