The lineup of contestants for the 20th season of Taskmaster has been revealed—get the details on who will be competing for Greg Davies’ approval below.
This upcoming season of the BAFTA-winning Channel 4 show is set to air later this year, celebrating the 10th anniversary of its first series, which premiered in July 2015.
Competing for the Taskmaster trophy will be stand-up comedians Ania Magliano, Maisie Adam, and Phil Ellis, alongside Reece Shearsmith and Sanjeev Bhaskar.
Magliano has made appearances on the BBC’s Live At The Apollo, while Adam is a familiar face on TV comedy panel shows, including Sky’s A League Of Their Own. Ellis is also known for his BBC Radio 4 series Phil Ellis Is Trying.
Shearsmith, a founding member of The League of Gentlemen, co-wrote and starred in Inside No. 9, and has appeared in films like Shaun Of The Dead, The World’s End, and Saltburn.
Bhaskar co-created and starred in the BBC sitcoms Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars At No. 42. More recently, he has hosted travel documentaries and stars in the popular ITV drama Unforgotten.
Since its debut in 2015, Taskmaster has aired in 120 countries and gained significant traction on YouTube, with 1.9 million subscribers and 895 million views since the channel launched. The live adaptation, Taskmaster: The Live Experience, has also enjoyed success in London.
Earlier this year, footage of the original stage version of Taskmaster was uncovered; this initial incarnation was first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010. Alex Horne played the title role in that version, which was inspired by The Crystal Maze, as well as Horne’s experiences with Big Brother and his envy of close friend Tim Key’s 2009 Edinburgh Comedy Award win.
The 19th season of Taskmaster came to a close on Thursday night, July 3.
