Western thought has for centuries tended to view the world as a realm composed of measurable, sharply bounded, and fixed matter. While this approach accepting matter as static paved the way for scientific developments, it severed our connection with nature and non-human beings, bringing along great ecological destruction. Galerie Tanja Wagner in Berlin directly challenges this rigid understanding separating objects with a group exhibition titled “The Seed Is the Tree Is the House,” meeting viewers between September 11 and October 31, 2026, as part of Berlin Art Week.
Recalling through its provocative title the uninterrupted process wherein the seed transforms into the tree, and the tree into the house, the exhibition brings together six female artists (Šejla Kamerić, Verena Melgarejo Weinandt, Grit Richter, Cielo Saucedo, Anna Steinert, and Angelika J. Trojnarski). Dismantling the artificial dichotomy between nature and culture, the selection is nourished by ecology, cybernetics, feminism, post-human theories, and non-Western philosophies. It treats life not as a combination of fixed objects, but as a fluid network interconnected through biological, spatial, and social cycles.
Works such as Spirit of the Forest, constructed by Angelika J. Trojnarski through spray paint, bleach, and paper interventions on canvas, stand as just one example rendering visible the transformation and vitality of the material within itself. Opening its doors on the evening of Thursday, September 10, the exhibition stands as one of the most eye-opening stops of September in Berlin for those who wish to transcend demarcated objects and feel the interconnected flow of all living and non-living entities.
