Forty years after Live Aid made history, its spirit comes alive again with Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical, debuting on May 15 at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre. The production kicked off in style at Wembley Stadium, the iconic venue of the 1985 concert.
Live Aid co-founders Sir Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, Harvey Goldsmith, and John Kennedy gathered once more, joined by DJ Jo Whiley, to unveil plans for a special gala performance on July 13, precisely four decades later, when music transformed the world. Following the performance, an exclusive afterparty at Koko in Camden will feature surprise acts. A limited number of premium tickets, which include access to the afterparty and a donation to the Band Aid Charitable Trust, are now available.
The Original Cast Album will also be released on July 11, featuring classic anthems from Queen, U2, Elton John, and Madonna reimagined for the stage, with new lyrics written by Geldof.
After its record-breaking premiere at The Old Vic in January 2024 and a run in Toronto, Just For One Day now makes its way to the West End. With a book by John O’Farrell (known for Mrs. Doubtfire and Something Rotten!) and direction by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet), this dynamic musical combines backstage drama with the electrifying power of rock music, remembering a pivotal moment in history.
The show stars Craige Els as Bob Geldof, alongside a talented cast from the West End. Additionally, 10% of all ticket sales will go directly to the Band Aid Charitable Trust, with over £600,000 raised so far.
Whether you’re revisiting Live Aid or experiencing it for the first time, Just For One Day is a powerful, energetic tribute to the music and the message that brought the world together.
