Artist Pascale Marthine Tayou always places his own personality at the starting point of his practice, conducting visual explorations across a broad spectrum—from consumerism to colonialism, cultural identity to the environment. In collaboration with Galleria Continua, Robilant+Voena gallery is hosting the works of this renowned Cameroonian artist—who has just received the Grand Prix de Sculpture from the French Academy of Fine Arts—for the first time in a personal gallery presentation in London.
Opening during Frieze Week, the exhibition features examples from Tayou’s most recognized series produced over the past decade alongside new works. Reflecting his belief that art and life are intertwined, Tayou frequently incorporates ephemera (everyday transient objects), found materials, and cultural artifacts representing his Central African heritage. His experiences living, traveling, and working in Europe enrich his visual transfers between global issues and cultural identity.
Tayou’s works are not merely sculptures or installations; they are reflections of the artist’s multifaceted practice. Previously introduced in the UK through institutional exhibitions at Serpentine Galleries (2015) and Tate Modern (2023–24), this first personal gallery presentation is an unmissable, exciting opportunity for London’s contemporary art scene.
