Lewis Capaldi called his performance at Glastonbury 2025 “the best day” of his life during a recent interview (July 14), even humorously suggesting it might outshine the birth of his future child.
The singer-songwriter also reflected on his previous Glastonbury experience, where he had to cut his set short due to tics related to his Tourette’s syndrome. He shared these insights on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Fallon kicked off the segment by reading headlines about Capaldi’s recent set, before asking how it felt to return to Worthy Farm after an unannounced performance on June 27. Capaldi admitted, “It was terrifying. Leading up to it, I thought, ‘What a terrible decision.’ But once we got on stage, it turned out to be really beautiful and lovely.”
The audience applauded as he continued, “It went exactly as I hoped and was probably the best day of my life.” He jokingly added, “Until I have a child, in which case, Glastonbury might still be better.”
Recalling his 2023 performance, he described it as a challenging experience. “The first time didn’t go well. I had what the kids call a bit of a ‘menty b’—a mental breakdown—on stage. I used to tic quite a bit, and on that occasion, it became uncontrollable, leading to a panic attack.”
Capaldi noted he had experienced tics before but never at an event as significant as Glastonbury. This pushed him to seek help, realizing he couldn’t keep putting himself through that.
Fallon expressed his concern during Capaldi’s 2023 performance, saying, “I was so worried about you. I love you, I’m one of your biggest fans.” He praised Capaldi for coming back to “crush” his 2025 set.
The musician also talked about his partnership with BetterHelp, a mental health platform providing online counseling and therapy services. They’re offering 734,000 hours of free therapy for those in need. “Therapy has been crucial for me in getting back to a place where I can perform again,” Capaldi stated.
Following his Glastonbury performance, he announced a UK and Ireland tour set to kick off in September. Tickets can be purchased here. The tour starts in Sheffield on September 7 and wraps up in Dublin on September 29, including stops in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Cardiff. Capaldi will also perform two nights at London’s O2 on September 17 and 18.
Earlier this month, he hinted at more new music coming this year following his recent single “Survive,” with a potential album expected in 2026.
