📍 Sprüth Magers, Berlin
Sprüth Magers presents the new solo exhibition in Berlin by Kara Walker, one of the most influential figures in contemporary art. Walker’s sharp social analyses, transformed into a radical visual language, open a profound space for reflection on race, gender, power, the fractures of memory, and the dark sides of historiography.
In this new series, the artist expands her iconic black silhouette aesthetic, reconfiguring it with colorful ink and watercolor collages. Large-scale compositions reminiscent of history painting carry both formal richness and the shattering power of Walker’s narratives simultaneously.
“Dispatches from A— and the Museum of Half-remembered Histories” is an imagined museum constructed from half-remembered histories, incomplete transmissions, and the shadows of collective memory. Walker’s long-standing visual-political investigations deepen this time with color, texture, and fractured narratives—inviting the viewer to confront both recent history and the dark layers of personal memory.
