Johnny Depp recently opened up about his much-publicized trial with Amber Heard, stating that he holds “no regrets” regarding the experience. In a candid interview with The Times, the Pirates of the Caribbean star reflected on the defamation case stemming from an op-ed that Heard wrote for The Washington Post, where she discussed domestic abuse without naming Depp. The actor chose to sue for defamation, and Heard countered with her own claims, alleging defamation from statements made by Depp’s legal team.
Depp shared that the emotional toll of the trial was exacerbated by the betrayal of friends he once trusted. “I’m thinking of three who did me dirty,” he revealed, hinting at people who were once close to him but turned against him during the turbulent period. He expressed understanding for why some might hesitate to support him, understanding how daunting the choices can be amid such a public ordeal.
Reflecting on the broader implications of the #MeToo movement, Depp remarked, “I was like a crash test dummy for #MeToo… I wanted to see who was playing it safe.” His critique wasn’t limited to personal betrayals; he also pointed fingers at industry figures, complaining about those who profess support while secretly undermining him.
Despite facing what he described as cancel culture and boycotts in Hollywood, Depp has still managed to secure brand deals and acting opportunities. When questioned about any regrets concerning the drastic shift in public perception since his peak fame, he firmly stated, “I have no regrets about anything… because, truly, what can we do about last week’s dinner? Not a fucking thing.”
