Da Lata – The Collective Carrying London’s Tropical Rhythm for 25 Years Returns

November 20, 20252 min read

London’s live music scene is polyphonic, multicultural, and constantly evolving. At the heart of this diversity stands one of the defining groups: Da Lata.

The special night on 23 November at The Jazz Cafe is a celebration marking the collective’s 25-year creative journey.

Da Lata: London + Brazil + Global Grooves

For anyone who remembers late-’90s club culture, Da Lata was more than just a band – it was a revolution in nuance.

Founded by producer Chris Franck and DJ/broadcaster Patrick Forge, the collective blended:

  • Afro-Brazilian rhythms
  • soul
  • jazz-funk
  • trip-hop
  • and the multicultural fabric of London

to create an entirely new understanding of global groove. At a time when the music industry tried to box them into the “world music” label, Da Lata shattered those moulds and built an urban, tropical, ritualistic sound world.

On Stage: An Uplifting Energy – A Rhythm of Humanity

Da Lata’s live performances are known for an atmosphere that doesn’t just make the crowd dance – it creates a collective state of mind. Powerful collaborations ranging from Tony Allen to Bernie Worrell, Mayra Andrade to Jhelisa have nourished the group’s spiritual and rhythmic depth for years. Combined with the warm acoustics of The Jazz Cafe, this concert will deliver a gently trance-like dance energy – a flow that merges Camden’s nocturnal pulse with Brazil’s sun-drenched frequencies.

DJ Patrick Forge: The Memory of Rhythm

The evening’s DJ set will be shaped by Da Lata co-founder Patrick Forge. Forge’s sets are like a musical history lesson:

  • classic and contemporary Brazilian grooves,
  • Afro-soul breaks,
  • rare tracks and remixes from the Da Lata catalogue,
  • rhythmic references from London club history

—all lending the night a vast spectrum.
