Fans who were present at an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium expressed their concerns over safety following a tragic incident where a man fell to his death.
The band performed the fourth of their five shows at the iconic London venue on Saturday, August 2, when a man in his 40s sustained fatal injuries from the fall. The Metropolitan Police have requested that anyone who may have recorded the incident on their mobile phone come forward, as preliminary reports suggest the fall occurred from the upper tier of the stadium.
In a heartfelt statement, Oasis expressed their shock and sadness over the event, offering their deepest sympathies to the man’s family and friends.
Attendees shared their experiences with the Guardian, highlighting their worries about the overall safety and alcohol policies during the concert. One fan remarked on the lax security, noting that while some individuals were warned about leaning over the balcony, there was a noticeable absence of timely intervention. “It felt unsafe,” he commented. “If a security guard had been stationed at the bottom of those steps, it might have prevented the fall.”
Others observed the high levels of alcohol consumption at the event, with one couple commenting on the excessive beer being thrown around. “I was surprised that people were allowed to bring drinks into the stands,” one fan remarked, adding that it made the floors dangerously slippery.
A representative for Wembley Stadium assured that they adhere to strict health and safety standards, and partner closely with various stakeholders to ensure the safety of everyone present.
Interestingly, figures released by Delaware North, the catering management for Wembley, revealed that an impressive 250,000 pints were sold on average during the first three nights of Oasis’ shows—significantly surpassing beer sales for other major artists at the venue.
Following their performances in Edinburgh and Dublin, Oasis will return to the UK for two additional shows at Wembley in September. They are also in talks to expand their tour to Italy.
With their recent comeback, Oasis has redefined their sound and spectacle for contemporary audiences, promising a blend of nostalgia and innovation that continues to captivate fans.
