Jess Glynne has publicly condemned the White House for its recent use of the popular Jet2 Holidays trend in a video promoting ICE deportations.
In recent weeks, Glynne’s 2015 hit “Hold My Hand” has seen a resurgence, with millions of TikTok users sharing videos of their unfortunate holiday experiences set to the song, often paired with the Jet2 Holidays slogan. The catchy tune has been featured in approximately 1.9 million TikTok videos and many more across other social media, serving as a backdrop for clips showcasing chaotic trips, from in-flight altercations to drunken mishaps and significant travel delays.
On July 30, the official White House account on X/Twitter shared an inappropriate post that featured immigrants being deported from the U.S., accompanied by the catchy Jet2 Holidays soundbite.
The post read: “When ICE books you a one-way Jet2 holiday to deportation. ✈️🎶 Nothing beats it!”
Responding to the controversial post, Glynne took to her Instagram Stories to express her disapproval, stating, “This post honestly makes me sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity – never about division or hate.”
The White House’s video surfaced as the United States began a series of immigrant deportations in early June, triggering protests and riots, with numerous musicians voicing their opposition to the actions. Notable figures like Olivia Rodrigo, Bruce Springsteen, and Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day have publicly condemned ICE’s measures.
Additionally, artists including Ethel Cain, Sophie Thatcher, and Boy Harsher have joined a campaign advocating for the abolition of ICE.
Back in 2018, Jess Glynne faced backlash for her song being “overplayed” on Jet2 flights, with passengers expressing their frustration. In response, she acknowledged their irritation and humorously apologized, saying, “I didn’t make them do it like that.”
Earlier this month, Glynne even met the voice behind the viral Jet2 advertisement, and the two recreated the ad live, bringing the catchy jingle full circle once more.
